The Grand Prix of Houston staff would like to thank the Houston community for the tremendous support we have received over the past two years – from our loyal sponsors, hard-working volunteers, the Houston Racing Association, all of our vendors and partners, staff of NRG Park, the local media, and of course our great fans.
We are proud of our accomplishments with the 2013 and 2014 Grand Prix, so we are extremely disappointed to not be able to build on them in 2015. However we are hopeful that we can bring racing back to Houston in the future.

A STATEMENT FROM GRAND PRIX OF HOUSTON
HOUSTON, August 29, 2014 – Mi-Jack Promotions, promoter of the Grand Prix of Houston, announced today that the event will not be scheduled for 2015. This announcement comes after officials from the Verizon IndyCar Series and Mi-Jack concluded that dates were not available that would meet the interests of all parties involved.
“We are disappointed to make this announcement because our company has worked tirelessly over the past nine years to bring world-class racing to Houston,” said Michael T. Lanigan, President of Mi-Jack Promotions. “As we learned this year, the weather in June is not ideal for our fans so we discussed many options for 2015. Ultimately, we were unable to find a date that was agreeable to IndyCar, NRG Park and the Grand Prix of Houston.”
Event organizers will now focus efforts on determining options for 2016 and beyond.
“We are very appreciative of the tremendous support we have received from the Houston community, most importantly Shell Oil Company, the Greater Houston Honda Dealers and the race fans of this city. We are also proud of our association with MD Anderson Cancer Center, and the fact that several hundred thousands of dollars were contributed to MD Anderson in association with the Grand Prix,” continued Lanigan. This charitable contribution reflects the strong community support that made this event so successful in recent years.”
Mi-Jack Promotions will continue to work with IndyCar on future considerations.
“INDYCAR is thankful to Mike Lanigan and his team for all their hard work and for the tremendous support of the Grand Prix of Houston that we received from Shell, Pennzoil and Honda,” said Mark Miles, Hulman & Company CEO. “We look forward to a continued relationship with Mi-Jack promotions and will always keep our options open when it comes to an important market like Houston.”
