GRAND PRIX OF HOUSTON ANNOUNCES MISS GRAND PRIX CONTEST
HOUSTON, Feb. 2, 2006 – The high-octane sights and sounds of the Grand Prix of Houston will now have a more feminine side with the addition of the Miss Grand Prix of Houston competition, a contest to select a young woman who will represent the Grand Prix as the event’s official ambassador. The contest will be part of the international “Face of Champ Car” competition, an official support event of the Champ Car World Series. The finals of the Houston competition will be staged during the three days and nights of speed and entertainment of the Grand Prix of Houston, May 11 – 13 at Reliant Park.
The Miss Grand Prix of Houston competition will feature 22 talented Houston-area finalists who will vie for the top honor of being named Miss Grand Prix of Houston. Each of the 22 finalists will become a member of the Miss Grand Prix of Houston Race Team and will serve as sports model spokespersons for the Grand Prix during a nearly week-long schedule of events during the Grand Prix of Houston. The finalists will stay four nights at the Hyatt Regency Houston, the official hotel of the Grand Prix of Houston, and will meet Champ Car drivers, perform grid duties at the start of the big race and make personal appearances at many of the Grand Prix special events. The 2006 Miss Grand Prix of Houston title will be awarded at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 12 before the start of that evening’s American Le Mans Series racing event.
The winner will be named “Miss Grand Prix of Houston” and will represent the event at the “Face of Champ Car” International Finals, to be held in conjunction with the year-end Champ Car event in Mexico City. Miss Grand Prix of Houston will compete against winners from Long Beach (CA), Cleveland (OH), Toronto (Canada), Edmonton (Canada), San Jose (CA), and Surfer’s Paradise (Australia), and the winner of the Face of Champ Car competition will serve as the official ambassador for the Champ Car World Series in 2007.
In addition to this all-expenses paid trip to Mexico City, the winner of the Miss Grand Prix of Houston competition will win great sponsor prizes and a year-long contract to represent the Grand Prix of Houston at various events. She will also gain a great deal of exposure, beginning with the opportunity to present the championship trophy to the winner of the Grand Prix of Houston on May 13 in front of a potential worldwide television audience of 1.3 billion viewers.
The 22 finalists will be selected during a series of preliminary events at various Houston-area restaurants and nightclubs between March 24 and April 15. Interested contestants can register online at http://www.grandprixofhouston.com. The full schedule and list of locations for the preliminary events will be soon announced, and all contestants who have registered on the website will be notified of those preliminary event details.
The “Face of Champ Car” competition is a worldwide promotion officially sanctioned by Champ Car to promote the excitement and glamour of Champ Car motor racing. In 2006 Face of Champ Car contests will be staged in conjunction with 8 Champ Car races. The competition is administered by Procon Leisure International, an international promotion company licensing events in over 50 countries. Procon started the competition at the Surfer’s Paradise (Australia) Champ Car event in 1991 as a small support event, and that contest has grown into a national phenomenon in Australia with some 2,500 entrants annually.
