Roger Clemens to Serve as Grand Marshal for
2007 Grand Prix of Houston Legendary baseball great will also participate in Celebrity Go-Kart Race
HOUSTON, April 3, 2007 – When the high-powered rocketships of the American Le Mans Series and Champ Car World Series roar back to JAGFlo Speedway at Reliant Park for the 2007 Grand Prix of Houston, they will be joined by another very famous “Rocket”. The Grand Prix announced today that legendary baseball pitcher Roger Clemens will serve as Grand Marshal for the 2007 Grand Prix of Houston, which is scheduled for April 20 – 22.
“We are honored and thrilled to have Roger Clemens as the Grand Marshal for the 2007 Grand Prix of Houston,” said Chuck Kosich, General Manager of the Grand Prix. “When Roger takes the podium to declare ‘Gentlemen, Start Your Engines’, it will add even more excitement to that magical moment for the drivers and our fans.”
In addition to serving as Grand Marshal, Clemens will participate in the Celebrity Go-Kart Race at the Grand Prix of Houston, a fundraising event that is part of the Grand Prix’s three-day festival of speed. The Celebrity Go-Kart Race will take place on Saturday, April 21 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and will benefit United Cerebral Palsy and the Hole in the Wall Camps. During the event, Clemens will compete in competition go-karts against sponsors and fellow celebrities including iconic actor/race team owner Paul Newman. Clemens is a Houston resident and true local hero who played for the University of Texas before embarking on an incredible pro career that has established him as one of the game’s greatest pitchers. Clemens has won an unprecedented seven Cy-Young Awards, won 348 games, and struck out more than 4,000 batters while pitching for the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, and his hometown Houston Astros.
