HOUSTON, April 22, 2007 – A sunny weekend at JAGFlo Speedway at Reliant Park came to a thrilling conclusion this afternoon when Sebastien Bourdais took the checkered flag in the 2007 Champ Car Grand Prix of Houston. Officials announced a total three-day attendance of 168,259 for the weekend, which represents an increase of more than 31% over the Grand Prix’s inaugural event last year at Reliant Park.
Ticket sales for the Grand Prix were up across all categories, and great weather throughout the weekend contributed to higher than expected walkup crowds. On Sunday, fans arrived early and filled the stands for the exciting pre-race ceremonies, which included Grand Marshal Roger Clemens, Honorary guest U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Mark T. Emerson, a concert with country legend Jerry Jeff Walker, a Navy flyover with four F-18 jets, a motorcycle parade with more than 300 Harley Davidsons, and a moment of silence honoring the victims of this week’s tragedies.
This is the second year of a five-year agreement between the Grand Prix and both Champ Car and Reliant Park, and organizers are optimistic that this year’s strong fan showing points to an exciting future for the Grand Prix of Houston.
