Miss Grand Prix of Houston Angela Saltzman Wins International Face of Champ Car Competition
HOUSTON, Nov. 14, 2007 - Angela Saltzman, the 24 year old college student who was crowned Miss Grand Prix of Houston at this year’s Grand Prix, was named the 2008 “Face of Champ Car” at the season ending race in Mexico City last weekend. Angela competed against fellow Miss Grand Prix winners from Champ Car events around the world and emerged as the overall winner after a whirlwind ten-day schedule in Mexico City.
“Becoming Miss Grand Prix of Houston has been a great experience, and I am thrilled to represent Houston as the 2008 Face of Champ Car,” exclaimed Angela. “As Miss Grand Prix, I have had the opportunity to spend a great deal of time in the community educating potential fans, promoting Champ Car, and helping to build excitement as we prepare for the 2008 Grand Prix. I've developed so much love and respect for the sport over the last few months - probably starting with my ride in the two-seater Formula One car - and it just continues to grow. I've learned to drive racecars at MSR Houston and taken a trip to the Grand Prix of Cleveland. I’m looking forward to continuing my duties promoting the Grand Prix of Houston, and also the exciting new challenge as Face of Champ Car!”
During the ten-day trip to Mexico City, Angela and the other contestants were judged in a variety of competitions, and also participated in a number of media events and sightseeing opportunities.
“Being in Mexico City was just an amazing experience, and in the week leading up to the finals our schedule was so packed!” said Angela. “We were on Fox Sports News and TV Azteca as well as many other local TV stations. We did interviews with all of the local newspapers and magazines and did a photo shoot for MAXIM Magazine. I had so much fun visiting the Pyramids of Teotihuacán and I really appreciated the support from all of the local restaurants who hosted us. If I had to pick one memory that will stick out in my mind forever I’d have to say it was the chance to see Sebastien Bourdais’ emotional Champ Car career finish.”
As Face of Champ Car, Angela receives a $10,000 personal services contract and will travel the world promoting the racing series. However, she will continue her duties as Miss Grand Prix of Houston and is looking forward to the 2008 Grand Prix, which returns to JAGFlo Speedway at Reliant Park on April 25 - 27. That is, when she’s not studying - the native Houstonian is also a junior Finance major at the University of Houston - Downtown.
